You'd think I'd have some pictures of Vienna considering I spent 4 days there but Noooooo... Well, its a big European city and it rained the entire time we were there.
Anyway, we have Halstat. In the mountainous western region of Austria, near the Alps is the town of Halstat. This area is the Salzkammergut Lake District.
Intensely relaxing place steeped in green nature, lush foliage, mountain hikes, and "gamütlick" (a german word that is almost untranslatable to English but means essentially the warm fuzzy feeling you get when something works just right).
Jackie and I stay in "Frau Zimmerman's" zimmers which are ancient with low beamed ceilings and ancient creaky beds. Here we are standing on the deck of Frau Zimmerman's with the town steeple behind us in the background.
The mountain above Halstatt contains the oldest continuously operating salt mine in the world. It's been in continuous production since 900 B.C.
This is an open air restaurant part way up the mountain to the entrance to the salt mine. Jackie and I stopped here after our tour of the salt mine and had lunch. Nice view from the restaurant patio eh?
And here is Jackie back down at the lake level, sitting in another open air restaurant. The views remind a lot of Vancouver, British Columbia.
When we left Austria we took an overnight train direct to Bruxelles to catch the chunnel train to Britain. Here is Jackie all comfortable on the train.
Now, you can continue on to Germany
